Washing
Open category →- Machine wash, normal You can machine wash this on a normal cycle.
- Machine wash, cold (30°C / 1 dot) Machine wash this in cold water — about 30°C. In the US this shows as one dot.
- Machine wash, warm (40°C / 2 dots) Machine wash this in warm water — about 40°C. Two dots in the US.
- Machine wash, hot (50°C / 3 dots) Machine wash this in hot water — about 50°C. Three dots in the US.
- Machine wash, very hot (60°C / 4 dots) Machine wash this in very hot water — about 60°C. Good for heavy soil and sanitizing.
- Machine wash, boil (95°C) You can wash this at near-boiling (95°C). Reserved for very sturdy whites.
- Permanent press Use the permanent-press setting — gentler agitation and a cool rinse. One bar under the tub.
- Delicate / gentle cycle Use the delicate or gentle cycle — slow spin, minimal agitation. Two bars under the tub.
- Hand wash only Wash this by hand in cool water — no machine.
- Do not wash Do not wash with water — this garment needs professional cleaning.
Bleaching

Open category →- Tumble dry, any heat You can tumble dry this at a normal heat setting.
- Tumble dry, low heat Tumble dry on low heat. One dot inside the circle.
- Tumble dry, medium heat Tumble dry on a moderate heat setting. Two dots inside the circle (the normal setting on ISO labels).
- Tumble dry, high heat Tumble dry on high heat. Three dots — this level appears on US (ASTM) labels only.
- Tumble dry, no heat (air only) Tumble dry with no heat — the drum just moves air. A filled dot; US (ASTM) labels only.
- Do not tumble dry Don't put this in the dryer — air dry it instead.
- Line dry Hang this on a line to dry. One vertical line.
- Drip dry Hang this dripping wet — don't wring or spin it out. Three vertical lines.
- Dry flat Lay this flat to dry so it keeps its shape. One horizontal line.
- Dry in the shade Dry out of direct sunlight — the corner line means 'in shade.' Usually paired with a line/flat dry symbol.
- Do not dry Do not dry this garment — it needs professional care.
Ironing
Open category →- Iron, any temperature You can iron this at any temperature.
- Iron on low (up to 110°C) Iron on a low setting, up to 110°C — safe for silk, acrylic, and nylon. One dot.
- Iron on medium (up to 150°C) Iron on medium, up to 150°C — safe for wool and polyester. Two dots.
- Iron on high (up to 200°C) Iron on high, up to 200°C — safe for cotton and linen. Three dots.
- Iron without steam Iron dry only — no steam. The crossed lines under the iron mean 'no steam.'
- Do not iron Don't iron this — heat will damage the fabric or finish.
Dry cleaning
Open category →- Dry clean Take this to a dry cleaner. A plain circle means professional dry cleaning.
- Dry clean with "P" solvents Professional dry clean using "P" solvents — either perchloroethylene (perc) or petroleum-based (hydrocarbon) solvents, not both together. This is the most common dry-clean symbol.
- Dry clean, petroleum solvent (F) Professional dry clean using petroleum-based solvent only.
- Professional wet cleaning (W) Professional wet cleaning — a gentle, water-based process at a specialty cleaner.
- Do not dry clean Don't dry clean this — solvents will damage the fabric or finish.
